Re: Brookside Community Center Renovation
Asbestos Remediation
January 2, 2026Please be advised: Asbestos Abatement at the Brookside Community Center is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
This work will be done in an adjacent area of the building (near the large gym) and will be performed and supervised by qualified professionals. Air quality for the building will be professionally monitored throughout the process to protect the health and safety of all program participants, building users and staff.
Physical barriers will be constructed in the area of abatement and renovation to clearly define the spaces and provide additional protection for our participants and staff.
We will continue to provide additional updates as they become available. Please check the Town Website, Recreation Department Facebook Page and your email to stay up to date.
December 11, 2025For over thirty-five years, the Town of Brighton Recreation and Parks Departments have been tenants in the former Brookside Elementary School, now Brookside Community Center. During that time the building has been owned first by the Brighton Central School District and, most recently, by the Talmudical Institute of Upstate New York, and has not had significant upgrades or improvements. The Recreation Department has served thousands of users through the years, making the best use of available space in this facility.
The Town is pleased to announce that the Talmudical Institute of Upstate New York, owners of the Brookside property, will begin renovating unoccupied areas of the building for the Recreation and Parks Departments to relocate to at no additional cost to the Town. Tentatively, we anticipate moving to the renovated facilities in late spring of 2026.
This renovation will include improvements for new offices, program spaces, restrooms, and the large gymnasium, and related asbestos abatement and remediation. All construction and abatement will be performed by qualified professionals to protect the health and safety of all participants and staff, in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
The Town is working closely with the property owners to minimize disruption to our day-to-day operation and ensure that we continue to provide the diverse, quality programming the community is accustomed to throughout the construction process.
The Recreation and Parks Departments will remain in our current location until renovation of the new space is complete. There will be active construction going on within the building and eventually on the surrounding property.
During and after construction, Recreation and Parks Departments users, visitors, staff and associated construction traffic will continue to use only the Winton Road entrance. All other entrances to the building will continue to be locked and secure.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this exciting time. The Recreation Department will be working hard to maintain our operations as usual throughout the construction and eventual moving process. We will continue to provide updates as appropriate.
